East Avenue Dentistry in Rochester is looking for a dental hygienist who would enjoy helping the practice develop a specialized pediatric hygiene program. The practice is experiencing incredible demand from its patients for children’s hygiene services and is looking for the right person to help meet that need. This would be a pediatric-only hygiene position — there would be no adult scaling or root planing. The vision is to create a fun, welcoming environment where children actually look forward to coming to the dentist. The hygienist would have a private room dedicated to the pediatric program, including a TV for the children, with the goal of making their dental experience positive from the very beginning. The schedule would be specifically built around children being out of school. This means the hygienist would work primarily on school vacations, school breaks, summer vacation, and other days when children are not in school. This is not intended to transition into a regular Monday–Friday school-day schedule; the practice expects this school-break-focused model to remain in place for the next several years. The anticipated appointment times would be: Ages 0–5: 30 minutes Ages 6–12: 40 minutes Ages 13–19: 50 minutes The position would start with a limited number of days and hours. As more families meet the hygienist, become comfortable with the office, and begin booking appointments, the number of available hours would gradually increase. The practice wants to build this program thoughtfully. As demand becomes established and the practice sees that the model works well for patients and the hygienist, hours and compensation would increase. The goal is a long-term position for the right person. The schedule also offers unusual flexibility for someone who enjoys taking extended vacations. For example, the practice could potentially accommodate someone who wanted to take a month off in June and another month in September, while concentrating their working schedule around the times when children are out of school. The position would also be very family-oriented. Parents would be welcomed into the experience and treated as valued members of the practice.
