MONROE COUNTY DENTAL SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING   Friday, September 16, 2022 RIT Inn & Conference Center 5257 W Henrietta Rd, Henrietta, NY 14467   “Implants, Dentures, Technology and Success”   Presented by Lyndon Cooper, D.D.S., Ph.D.   Registration and Breakfast 7:30 am * Lecture 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Lunch at noon   7 CE Credits Session Description: Dental implant therapy is a growing part of mainstream practice for which therapeutic success must be assured. The intent of this presentation is to increase our awareness of the challenges facing the consistent practice of dental implant therapy and to assure implant therapeutic excellence. We Fwill begin by examining by example what is known about implant therapy outcomes and distill a list of challenges that face us all. Next, we will explore the current technology available to improve the planning and execution of dental implant therapies from a single tooth scenario to complex full mouth reconstruction.  Placing and restoring implants that result in truly excellent outcomes is based on excellence in planning, but we will identify some of the important aspects of delivery of excellent dental implant restorations. In particular, we will explore some simplified workflows and material choices that can positively influence our dental implant success. Our placement of dental implants is often considered and taught as an acute intervention – something that we do and move on from. In fact, the placement of a dental implant is actually the intended creation of a chronic condition within the mouth and one that can have challenging and time-dependent consequences. We will spend some time considering how the choices we make in the process of providing implants for our patients influences the possible longevity of dental implant therapy. These four general themes will be explored through illustrated case scenarios and the sharing of data where possible. Returning to our practices with these in mind can provide further assurances for reproducible therapeutic success, patient satisfaction and professional rewards.    Learning Objectives: At conclusion, participants should be able to: · Identify the more common and most challenging complications and causes of implant failure · Understand the importance of using 3D digital planning software to comprehensively explore all treatment options available for individual implant scenarios · Appreciate implant placement guidelines (e.g., Rules of 6, Rules of 10) to guide planning and to enhance treatment outcomes · Explain the use of digital technology in the simplification / enhancement of the execution of dental implant therapy · See the value in preparing for and engaging patients in lifelong implant care plans that aid in assuring therapeutic longevity

Dr. Lyndon Cooper is the Dean at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Dentistry. He was formerly the Associate Dean for Research and Head of the Department of Oral Biology at University of the Illinois School of Dentistry, Chicago and served as the Stallings Distinguished Professor of Dentistry, Chairperson and Director of Graduate Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Cooper is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and served as the 2010 President of the American College of Prosthodontists and later he served as the Chair of the American College of Prosthodontists Education Foundation. He received the ACP’s 2004 Clinician/Researcher Award, the IADR’s 2009 Distinguished Scientist Award for Prosthodontics and Implantology, the IADR/AO Osseointegration Innovation in Implant Sciences Award, and the 2016 Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontists’ Schweitzer Award for Research. Dr. Cooper remains active in research and patient care and is focused on enhancing dental education, providing for dental therapeutic excellence, and improving access to oral health care.

Monroe County Dental Society is a component of 7th District; recognized as a CERP provider through NYSDA. Continuing Education (CE) credits are awarded for all lectures that meet the NYSED requirements. One hour of credit is awarded for each 50 minutes of presentation attended. CE forms for NYS Continuing Education requirements will be given to each attendee when checking in at registration. To verify attendance, a four-digit code, read at the end of each seminar must be marked on the CE form. After completing the form, please bring the white copy to the registration table before leaving.
