Last year, the New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) conducted the first ever NYS Mission of Mercy. Many of you volunteered and participated in this amazing event, which provided nearly $1 million in free treatment to over 1,000 men, women and children.
Building on the success of that event, your local Dental Society currently is working with NYSDA and the New York State Dental Foundation to do a series of events geared toward providing free emergency dental care, including screenings, palliative care, prophylaxis, direct restorations and extractions, to patients who do not have a dental home.
On Friday, November 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., we will provide a dental demonstration clinic at the Finger Lakes Community Health Center in Ovid, NY. The goal of this program is to use the day to attract those in dental need and to get them into the system for ongoing care.
Of course, our efforts to improve oral health care cannot possibly be accomplished without the efforts of you, the dental volunteer. Won’t you please help us by volunteering just a few hours of your time on Friday, November 13, in this worthy initiative?
To sign up for either a half day (4 hour) shift or a full-day (8 hour) shift, please contact Ms. Cyndy Fiegl, Project Dental Coordinator, at the Eighth District Dental Society, (716)995-6300, or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the brief time we have them, we cannot solve all of their oral health issues, but we are hopeful they will leave here not only with a solution to their immediate dental problem, but also with a renewed sense of their worth. And we know our volunteers will leave with a sense of pride in what we, collectively, have accomplished.
